About the Hotel
Storsätra Fjällhotell is a historic mountain hotel dating to 1939, set in a remote fell location near the shores of Lake Grövelsjön in northern Dalarna — one of the westernmost points of Sweden before the Norwegian border. The hotel occupies a position within easy reach of Fulufjällets Nationalpark and the Njupeskär waterfall (93 metres, Sweden's tallest), making it a natural base for wilderness hiking, cross-country skiing, and fell exploration.
Built in an era before mass tourism reached this corner of Dalarna, the hotel retains a traditional mountain character: a fireplace in the lobby, a library, sauna, hot tub, and spa services complement the outdoor setting. The surrounding landscape belongs to the Sámi cultural sphere, where reindeer herding has shaped the high fell since long before the hotel was established. Restaurant, bar, coffee shop, ski equipment rental, and ski storage are all available on site. Idre Fjäll — with its 41 lifts and alpine runs — is within reach to the south, as is the trail network linking the Swedish fell plateau toward Trysil in Norway and Sälen to the south-east.
