About the Hotel
Sporthotellet Idre is a compact, sports-focused hotel in the village of Idre itself, positioned in the valley of the Österdalälven river at the foot of the Dalarna highlands. It serves as a practical base for both skiing at Idre Fjäll — Sweden's third-largest ski resort, some 3 kilometres up the hill — and for summer exploration of the surrounding wilderness.
The area carries deep Sámi heritage; the traditional Sámi practice of reindeer herding continues across the fells above the valley, and the village sits on the edge of the great fell landscape that stretches toward the Norwegian border. Fulufjällets Nationalpark, with its old-growth forests and Njupeskär waterfall — Sweden's tallest at 93 metres — is accessible to the south-west, while Trysil in Norway and Sälen to the south are within two hours' drive. The hotel offers a complimentary buffet breakfast and provides a straightforward base for active travellers through all four seasons.
