About the Hotel
Pinehurst Resort is America's oldest and most storied golf destination — nine championship courses in the Carolina Sandhills, including Pinehurst No. 2, which has hosted more major championships than any other American course and is consistently ranked among the world's top five. The resort was founded in 1895 by Boston soda fountain magnate James Tufts, who hired Frederick Law Olmsted to design the village and Donald Ross to design the courses; the result is a resort community that genuinely predates the concept of resort communities. The Spa at Pinehurst offers Finnish sauna, steam, and thermal pool circuit with treatments designed around the longleaf pine and wiregrass ecology of the Sandhills. The Holly Inn, the oldest operating inn in the resort, dates to 1895 and is listed on the National Register.
