About
Naniboujou Lodge was built in 1929 as a private club — Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey were founding members. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the lodge sits where the Brule River meets Lake Superior, 15 miles northeast of Grand Marais.
The iconic Painted Room dining hall features 200 Cree-inspired geometric motifs in bold colors. The Finnish sauna is located on the Lake Superior shoreline. No televisions or telephones in rooms — an intentional retreat from the modern world. A singular piece of Minnesota history.
