About
Winterlake Lodge sits on the shore of Finger Lake in the Alaska Range foothills, accessible only by floatplane from Anchorage — a 45-minute flight into wilderness that has no roads, no cell service, and no other development for hundreds of miles. The wood-fired Finnish sauna is a cornerstone of the lodge experience, and guests complete the heat-cold sequence by plunging directly into Finger Lake's glacier-cold waters before Northern Lights appear over the Alaska Range in winter. The lodge is also affiliated with Kirsten Dixon's culinary program, bringing farm-to-table cuisine — including a greenhouse garden — into the remote Alaska backcountry. The combination of genuine wilderness isolation, Finnish sauna tradition, and extraordinary hospitality makes Winterlake arguably the most authentic wilderness sauna experience in North America.
