San Tommaso

San Tommaso sits in the countryside at Contrada Bagiolaro, about 2 km inland from Polignano a Mare, a masseria-style property offering free buffet breakfast, room service, bicycle rentals, meeting rooms, luggage storage, and a garden and banquet hall. The rural setting gives guests a view of the trulli-dotted Apulian landscape while remaining close to the coast. Polignano a Mare's celebrated clifftop old town is a short drive east. Lama Monachile — the narrow cove cut through the limestone below the medieval bridge — is the town's defining image and hosts the Red Bull Cliff Diving championships each summer. The carved limestone Centro Storico above houses gelaterie, producers of DOP Pugliese tomatoes, local olive oil, and ceramics workshops. The Grotta Palazzese, Polignano's famous cave restaurant, is embedded in the cliffs. A statue on the clifftop promenade honours Domenico Modugno, born here and remembered for Volare (1958). Olive groves and vineyards stretch across the Murge hills inland.
