Restaurant Hotel Zum Storchen is a restaurant-with-rooms in Waldkirch, a small town in the Elz valley on the western edge of the Black Forest, a short way northeast of Freiburg. Waldkirch sits below the Kandel mountain and is known for its barrel-organ-building tradition and the ruined Kastelburg above the town.
The house is run around its kitchen and table, with a terrace for warmer days and a sauna to ease tired legs — welcome after the riding, walking and climbing the surrounding hills invite. A meeting room and coworking space, plus a banquet hall, make it workable for small events and working stays, and it sits next to a golf course.
The Elz valley is a true Black Forest base: mountain-biking and hiking trails climb straight from the valley floor, downhill skiing and snowboarding are within reach in winter, and the Kaiserstuhl and Markgräflerland wine country lie to the west. Freiburg is close for a day in the city. A good fit for hikers, cyclists and couples touring the region.
