About the Hotel
The Fontenay Hamburg opened in 2018 on the Alstersee shore with one of the most architecturally ambitious hotel designs in northern Germany — an organic, sculptural facade that has quickly become a Hamburg landmark across 131 rooms and suites. The top-floor spa is the headline.
The 1,000-square-metre spa floor wraps the building's highest level with a 20-metre indoor/outdoor swimming pool, a traditional Finnish sauna, a steam bath, and multiple treatment rooms — all under panoramic views across Hamburg and the Alstersee. The whole space is engineered to feel like a complete escape from the city below, even though you're directly above it.
The Fontenay works best for travelers who want their sauna paired with serious design and a proper view, and who treat dinner as part of the experience. Three restaurants on site include the Michelin-starred Lakeside for modern European cooking over the Alster, and the position gives easy access to the Kunsthalle, the fashionable Harvestehude quarter, and central Hamburg.
