Germany
Dortmund is the Ruhr region's largest city, and its sauna culture reflects the post-industrial transformation from steel-and-coal to a modern service city. Revierpark Wischlingen is the flagship — a sprawling leisure and sauna complex built in the 1970s as part of Ruhr social welfare infrastructure, now offering a full Saunalandschaft. German textile-free norm applies; Aufguss on fixed schedule. Dortmund's working-class heritage means public sauna pricing is more democratic than in Munich or Berlin equivalents.
Badepark Stockheide is the main public sauna complex. Solebad Wischlingen offers natural brine sauna and pools. Hotel saunas at Radisson Blu and Mövenpick cover the business tier.
Natur-Solebad Werl (50 km south) is one of NRW's best natural brine facilities. The Sauerland ski resort area (Winterberg, 90 min) has mountain resort saunas for winter.
Larger than Bochum's due to city size, but similar in character — leisure pool saunas and hotel spas rather than destination wellness resorts. The flat Ruhr landscape lacks the thermal spring heritage found 50 km south in the Sauerland.
